App privacy policy

For the Pocket Frens app and your Pocket Fren. Last updated 27 October 2026.

Pocket Frens is made by UpLevel Technologies LLC, doing business as AirFrens^® ("we"). This policy covers the Pocket Frens app for iPhone and Android, your Pocket Fren, and the Pocket Frens service they talk to. Reserving on this site is covered by the reservation privacy notice.

We keep only what a feature needs. Codes and tokens are stored scrambled (as hashes), there are no passwords, and IP addresses aren't kept.

Your account

• Your email (to sign in with a one-time code), display name, avatar, friend code and time zone, until you delete your account.
• Your settings, such as whether people can add you by code and whether friends see your ritual replies.
• Push notification tokens for your phone, and, on iPhone, Live Activity tokens while a Muse task is running.

Your Pocket Fren and Fren

• Your Pocket Fren's hardware id, Bluetooth name, firmware version and settings, and its personality for Muse.
• Its latest battery, Wi-Fi network name and signal, overwritten every time it checks in.
• Technical health and crash reports from its firmware, to find bugs and stop a bad update. Crash reports are kept for 90 days.
• Your Fren: its name, look, level, mood, streak, world and care, and the Frens that grew up before it.
• Recent activity used for XP, quests and your feed, kept from 7 to 60 days depending on the kind.

Friends

• Your friendships, and notes (kept for 90 days), gifts and visits between your Frens.
• When Pocket Frens meet nearby over Bluetooth, which ones saw each other and when. Sightings are deleted after a day. Your Pocket Fren broadcasts an id that changes regularly, so it can't be tracked.
• Friends see your name, avatar and Fren, and your ritual replies only if you turn that on.
• If you block someone, we keep a note of the block until you lift it or either account is deleted. If you report someone, the report and the notes they sent you are emailed to our team so we can act on it, and kept only as long as that takes.

Voice and speech

When your Pocket Fren reads a reply or a note aloud, its text is turned into speech by Cloudflare Workers AI. We don't keep the text or the audio. What you say to Muse goes to your Muse agent, which is covered below.

Weather and steps (off unless you turn them on)

• Real weather: your phone rounds its location to about 10 km and asks Open-Meteo for the weather there. Your location never reaches us. We receive one word, such as "rain", and ignore it after 3 hours.
• Steps: your phone sends today's step count. We turn it into a few walks for your Fren and don't keep the number. No route, location or other health data is sent.

Anonymous usage (off unless you turn it on)

If you turn on "Share anonymous usage", the app sends counts such as "a screen was opened", with a random id that changes every 30 days and is never linked to you. We only add them to daily totals, which we keep for 13 months. Nothing is sent while it's off. The app has no advertising and no third-party trackers.

Muse and Meta

Muse is a product of Meta Platforms, Inc., and UpLevel Technologies LLC (AirFrens) isn't affiliated with Meta. If you pair your Pocket Fren with Muse, what you say to Muse and what Muse does with it is handled by Meta under its own terms and privacy policy, not this one.

Who handles it for us

• Cloudflare runs the Pocket Frens service, firmware downloads and speech.
• Neon hosts the database (in the United States).
• Resend sends sign-in emails.
• Expo, Apple and Google deliver notifications.

They process your data only on our instructions. We don't sell your data or share it with advertisers.

Download or delete it

• Profile › Privacy and data › Download my data gives you everything your account holds, as a file.
• Profile › Delete account deletes your account straight away, with your Pocket Frens and Frens, friendships, notes and pending gifts. Your Pocket Fren resets itself the next time it checks in.
• You can also write to hello@pocketfrens.com to ask for a copy, a correction or deletion. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

Pocket Frens isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has an account, write to us and we'll delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and tell you in the app.
